"Closed Doors"

Sometimes I think we are far too hasty to say that "God has closed this door." Often when I say it, I find that what I am really saying is:

a. I am too lazy to even try getting out of my chair to see if it will open if I turn the knob
b. I am too impatient to take a course in advanced lockpicking
c. I am too proud to ask others to help me construct a battering ram
d. I am too busy doing the other things to knock.

It really has nothing to do with whether I believe that God wants me to go through it or not. It has everything to do with the fact that I enjoy searching for other doors and moaning about the fact that I can't find one more than I enjoy going through them when I do find them.

Humility as a Woman

Humility is not about lacking confidence in God's judgment. It is about lacking confidence in our own judgment which God has informed us is corrupt.

The problem is not so much that women want to be confident about doing things. The problem is that women want to be confident in doing things that we have been informed are not things that we should be doing at all, let alone with great boldness.

The problem is not so much that women want things to be done well. The problem is that women believe that their way of doing things well is better than God's way. From a slightly different angle, the problem is not that we want to do things well, it is that we want to do everything - including overriding God's legislation on what is really good.

A quiet and gentle spirit and a heart that is not afraid with any trembling are only to be found where we acknowledge that His ways are best. We walk by faith in His wisdom and not by sight in either our circumstances or the abilities that we believe we should abuse to improve them. And in the same way that we do not try to take on responsibilities that are not ours to take, we do not run away from the responsibilities that actually are ours. Rather, we face them with courage in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that His grace is sufficient and His power is made known in weakness.
